La comprensione (dal latino comprehensio -onis) è un processo psicologico relativo a un oggetto astratto o fisico, in base al quale si è in grado di utilizzare concetti per modellare quell'oggetto: implica capacità e disposizioni rispetto sull'oggetto di conoscenza sufficienti a sostenere un comportamento intelligente. La comprensione è spesso, anche se non sempre, correlata ai concetti di apprendimento e talvolta anche alla teoria o alle teorie associate a tali concetti. Tuttavia, una persona può avere una buona capacità di prevedere il comportamento di un oggetto, animale o sistema - e quindi può, in un certo senso, comprenderlo - senza necessariamente avere familiarità con i concetti o le teorie associate a quell'oggetto, animale o sistema nella loro cultura.
