茶の湯はたいへん間口の広い文化です。机に例えれば「引き出し」が多く、多彩な楽しみが詰まっています。「和敬清寂」の語で示される千利休居士の茶の湯の根本は今日に至るまで不変です。しかし、それはいたずらに古いかたちを踏襲しているだけではありません。各時代に生きる人々が「そのときの今」に適う茶の湯のすがたを模索してきた証しです。
