UVB-76 (; ), also known by the nickname "The Buzzer", is a shortwave radio station that broadcasts in upper sideband mode on the frequency of 4625kHz (wavelength of 64.8m). It broadcasts a short, monotonous , repeating at a rate of approximately 25tones per minute, 24hours per day. Sometimes, the buzzer signal is interrupted and a voice transmission in Russian takes place.
Contrary to popular belief, the transmission is not related to the Dead Hand system, it has been interrupted and stopped many times yet no nuclear weapons nor ICBMs have been launched by the radio station directly. The best-supported hypothesis with the most evidence is that it is part of a military commandment network for the Leningrad Military District of Russia.
