Le Val-d'Oise (/val d‿waz/) est un département français appartenant à la région Île-de-France, créé en 1968 à la suite d'un démembrement du département de Seine-et-Oise. Il constitue la partie nord de l'agglomération parisienne. Il est un des départements de la grande couronne du bassin parisien. Il se caractérise par son territoire contrasté regroupant, notamment dans ses deux parcs naturels régionaux, un patrimoine touristique et naturel certain d'une part et, d'autre part, des zones fortement urbanisées, le premier aéroport d'Europe continentale (Paris Charles-de-Gaulle), des pôles d'activité économique dynamiques au rayonnement national et international (dont neuf pôles de compétitivité). Il tire son nom de l'Oise, affluent majeur de la Seine qui le traverse après avoir pris sa source en Belgique et parcouru le nord-est de la France. La ville de Pontoise est le chef-lieu du département. L'Insee et la Poste lui attribuent le code 95.
