Vartan Gregorian

Vartan Gregorian was an Iranian male university teacher born in Tabriz in 1934. He held a Doctor of Philosophy degree and was educated at Stanford University. A member of the Armenian Apostolic Church, he spoke English and worked in New York City. His employers included the University of Pennsylvania, the Carnegie Corporation of New York, and the New York Public Library. He was also a member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the American Philosophical Society, and the New York Academy of Medicine.

Gregorian received several awards, including the Guggenheim Fellowship, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the National Humanities Medal, and the Mkhitar Gosh Medal. He died in New York City on April 15, 2021. His work and honors are recognized in collections related to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
