As per the Indian legends or Puranas, the Varunastra is said to have been obtained by great warrior-heroes such as Rama, Lakshmana, Hanuman, Ravana, Meghanada, Vishvamitra, Vasishta, Arjuna, Karna, Krishna, Satyaki, Abhimanyu, Pradyumna, Drona, Bhishma, and many other illustrious characters.
