VOCALOID (ボーカロイド Bōkaroido?) é um software de síntese de voz. Apoiado pela Yamaha Corporation, desenvolveu o software para o produto comercial "VOCALOID". O software permite aos usuários sintetizar "cantar" digitando letras e melodia. Ele usa a tecnologia de sintetização com vocais especialmente gravados de atores de voz ou cantores. Para criar uma música, o usuário deve inserir a melodia e letra. Uma interface tipo rolo de piano é usada para inserir a melodia e as letras podem ser inseridas em cada nota. O software pode mudar a velocidade das pronúncias, adicionar efeitos como vibrato, ou alterar a dinâmica e/ou tom da voz. Cada VOCALOID é vendido como "um cantor em uma caixa", projetado para atuar como um substituto para um cantor real.
