Enquires relating to airline flight schedules and bookings should be directed to the airlines. Return flights from Gisborne, Napier and Hamilton are serviced via Sunair (launching January 13, 2025). Parking at the Whakatāne Airport is free of charge, and there are no time limits for parking. Parking is located at the entrance to the terminal. Night security patrols the aerodrome during the night and CCTV surveillance operates 24/7. Whether you're catching a flight to Auckland, meeting friends, or looking for somewhere different to visit, the Airside Café offers great coffee, tasty food, and friendly service at affordable prices. Locals, visitors, cycling groups, families, and aviation enthusiasts are all welcome. Bring the kids along to play on Dusty the Airplane and enjoy the unique airport atmosphere while you relax with a coffee. If you are flying a drone (or unmanned aerial vehicle) within 4 km of the Whakatāne airport, utilise Airshare to log your flights. You must also email [email protected] with details of the flight and a map showing the flight's location. All applications for flights within this area will be considered on a case-by-case basis. The Whakatāne Aerodrome has two runways, the sealed night-capable runway at a length of 1280m (09/27) and the grass runway of 750m suitable for light aircraft.
