A taxobox (short for taxonomy infobox) is a table found on Wikipedia articles setting out the currently largely-accepted scientific classification of an organism or group of organisms. Note that there is sometimes taxonomic debate on the status and name of a taxon. As of June 2011, the English Wikipedia contained more than 180,000 taxoboxes. This article explains how to read a taxobox.
If you want to create or edit taxoboxes, see Wikipedia:Taxobox usage. For discussion and to request a taxobox be added to an article, see Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Tree of Life or tag an article with {{missing-taxobox}}.
