Ha interpretato ruoli per il cinema e per la televisione, spesso figure di nonni, padri anziani o personaggi burberi e scontrosi. Ha interpretato il ruolo del vecchio Peabody, l'anziano fattore che riceve la "visita" della DeLorean nel fienile, in Ritorno al Futuro.
