But they go further. They encourage pupils to be self-aware, to become more centred individuals, conscious both of their strengths and their weaknesses, and able to separate beauty, truth and goodness from noise and distraction. Pupils are encouraged to live in the present, to value the small, day-to-day moments of life and not always be looking impatiently to the next thing. Worth pupils learn that while living in a community requires effort, that effort brings great rewards, such as a strong sense of belonging and a desire to see justice for everyone in society. At Worth, families can choose the schooling experience that best suits their needs – this includes flexi boarding options and short stay boarding of one to two terms. Worth School’s character, its education with heart and soul, is best seen up close. The origins of Worth lie in the foundation in 1606 of the English Benedictine community of St Gregory’s at Douai, France. In the early 1930s, Abbot John Chapman established both another monastic community and a junior school in West Sussex by purchasing a country estate then known as Paddockhurst and a senior school was founded in 1959. Today, Worth is a thriving school, encompassing boarding and day pupils, girls and boys. Opportunities to explore from afar, with a virtual tour, a drone tour of the campus, boarding House tours and films about the Sixth Form, Juniors, weekends at Worth, drama, music, the IB Diploma and much more, as well as finding out about ‘The Worth way’. Worth Society is the School’s award-winning alumni association, established to enable former pupils (known as Old Worthians) and staff to stay in touch with one another for business and social networking purposes, to provide lifelong guidance and support, and to nurture mutually beneficial relationships with the School, Abbey and the wider Worth community. Worth’s parent association, the Friends of Worth, plays a vital role in providing the opportunities for parents, pupils, teachers and the monastic community to come together and create that special environment that makes Worth so unique.
