WOUGNET

Women of Uganda Network (WOUGNET) is a non-governmental organization initiated in May 2000 by several women’s organizations in Uganda to develop the use of information and communication technologies (ICTs) among women as tools to share information and address issues collectively. WOUGNET’s mission is to promote and support the use of ICTs by women and women organizations in Uganda, so that they can take advantage of the opportunities presented by ICTs in order to effectively address national and local problems of sustainable development. The new ICTs, in particular, email and the Internet facilitate communication with each other and the international community. Indeed, access to information about best practices, appropriate technologies, ideas and problems of other groups working on similar concerns have been identified as critical information and communication needs of women organisations in Africa. While our emphasis is directed towards Internet technologies, we are also interested in how these technologies can be integrated with traditional means of information exchange and dissemination including radio, video, television and print media. Our goal is to improve conditions of life for women by enhancing their capacities and opportunities for exchange, collaboration and information sharing. WOUGNET mission is to promote the use of ICTs by women and girls for gender equality and sustainable development. WOUGNET’s vision is an inclusive and just society where women and girls are enabled to use ICTs for sustainable development. Our diverse team consists of experienced professionals committed to advancing the use of ICTs by women and women organizations in Uganda. Together, we bring expertise, creativity, and dedication to meet the evolving society. Julie Bernadette Agum is a Communications and Advocacy Specialist with extensive skills and abilities in designing advocacy and communication strategies, production and management, organisational skills, conflict handling and counseling, monitoring and tracking skills. Julie has worked with both the government sector nationally and internationally and the NGO sector. She has managed several projects such as the AIDS Control Program and the Adolescents Development Program (UNICEF-Government of Uganda funded) and served as a member of National Technical Resource Network (Information, Communication and Advocacy) and provided input on key issues. She worked with the UN Mission in Liberia on Political Affairs, Civil Affairs, and Human Rights with the Military and Police to build up and provide communication and advocacy products on Gender, Child Protection, Civilian Protection, Rule of Law and the Electoral Process for top management. Julie was instrumental in training child broadcasters in radio programming and production to take charge of the air waves. She is a qualified Health and Wellness Coach. Shubey Nantege is a creative thinker and social entrepreneur. She is a peace advocate through Generation Change Uganda Chapter under the United States Institute of Peace. Shubey is the Executive Director of Go Girl Africa, a Business Development Director at Labour World Connect, and the Director of Great Habib Smart Farm Academy. She is passionate about human rights, peace and tolerance, reproductive health and youth economic empowerment. Shubey has a vision to inspire positive action among girls and women everywhere to challenge the status quo and be the best they can be. She is currently the Program Director of Adding Value to Agriculture Products (AVAP). Before farming, Ednah served as the Executive Director of BROSDI for sixteen years. She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree (Mathematics, Geography & Psychology) and has numerous certificates from short courses that she has undertaken to enable her to boost her job performance over the years.
