==Etymology== The name "Yishun" () is the Mandarin equivalent of "Nee Soon", the given name of Lim Nee Soon (Chinese: ), a prominent industrialist who made his fortune from the rubber and pineapple plantations he had in the area. In the 1980s, "Nee Soon" was renamed "Yishun" as part of a government initiative to replace dialect names with hanyu pinyin versions.
