Zeitz ist eine Mittelstadt im Süden von Sachsen-Anhalt im östlichen Teil des Burgenlandkreises. Von 1652 bis 1718 war Zeitz Residenzstadt des Herzogtums Sachsen-Zeitz. Als Residenz diente dem Herzog Moritz von Sachsen-Zeitz das Schloss Moritzburg. Seit dem 19. Jahrhundert entwickelte sich Zeitz zur Industriestadt sowie zu einem bedeutenden Bahnknotenpunkt. Vor allem aus diesen beiden Epochen haben sich viele wertvolle Altbauten und Kulturdenkmale erhalten, die das Stadtbild prägen.
