Ziro is home to the Apatani tribe. Ziro is included in the Tentative List for UNESCO's World Heritage Site for the Apatani cultural landscape.
Ziro is 115 km from the state capital, Itanagar, 112 km from North Lakhimpur in Assam and 96 km from Naharlagun railway station. Indian Air Force's ALG airstrip is at Ziro.
