The African terrestrial barbets are the bird genus Trachyphonus in the African barbet family (Lybiidae), which was formerly included in the Capitonidae and sometimes in the Ramphastidae. These birds are more terrestrial than the other African barbets and differ in some other respects too; they are thus separated in the subfamily Trachyphoninae.

Entomodestes
Entomodestes is a small genus of birds in the thrush family. They are found in humid Andean highland forest in South America. The two species both have black underparts and head, and a white patch on the lower face, but differ in the colour of the back.

Pithys
Pithys is a genus of insectivorous passerine binds in the antbird family (Thamnophilidae) found in the lowland forests of South America. The genus includes two species: Pithys albifrons (White-plumed Antbird) and Pithys castanea (White-masked Antbird). These birds are known for their association with army ant swarms, which they follow to catch insects and other small animals that flee the swarm. This specialized feeding behavior, known as obligate ant-following, is rare among birds and defines much of the genus’s ecology.

Machaeropterus is a genus of passerine birds in the manakin family Pipridae. They are found in the tropical forests of South America.

Leptopoecile
Leptopoecile is a genus of birds in the long-tailed tit family Aegithalidae. The genus was once placed in the large family Sylviidae, but analysis of mitochondrial DNA placed it with the long-tailed tits.
Fulvetta
Fulvetta is a genus of passerine birds. Originally proposed in 1877, it was recently reestablished for the typical fulvettas, which were long included with their presumed relatives in the Timaliidae (Old World babbler) genus Alcippe. But they are actually quite closely related to the parrotbills, and are thus now placed in the family Paradoxornithidae.
