Fluorene , or '9H-fluorene' is an organic compound with the formula (C6H4)2CH2. It forms white crystals that exhibit a characteristic, aromatic odor similar to that of naphthalene. Despite its name, it does not contain the element fluorine, but rather it comes from the violet fluorescence it exhibits. For commercial purposes it is obtained from coal tar, where it was discovered and named by Marcellin Berthelot in 1867.

Lumefantrine (or benflumetol) is an antimalarial drug. It is only used in combination with artemether. This combination is frequently the first-line medication for Plasmodium falciparum malaria. Lumefantrine has a much longer half-life compared to artemether (3-6 days vs. 2 hours), and is therefore thought to clear any residual parasites that remain after combination treatment.

Ledipasvir is a drug for the treatment of hepatitis C that was developed by Gilead Sciences. After completing Phase III clinical trials, on February 10, 2014, Gilead filed for U.S. approval of a ledipasvir/sofosbuvir fixed-dose combination tablet for genotype 1 hepatitis C. The ledipasvir/sofosbuvir combination is a direct-acting antiviral agent that interferes with HCV replication and can be used to treat patients with genotypes 1a or 1b without PEG-interferon or ribavirin.

Lomitapide , sold under the brand name Juxtapid in the US and Lojuxta in the EU, is a medication used as a lipid-lowering agent for the treatment of familial hypercholesterolemia, developed by Aegerion Pharmaceuticals. It has been tested in clinical trials as single treatment and in combinations with atorvastatin, ezetimibe and fenofibrate.

Fluorenol, also known as hydrafinil, is an alcohol derivative of fluorene. In the most significant isomer, fluoren-9-ol or 9-hydroxyfluorene, the hydroxy group is located on the bridging carbon between the two benzene rings. Hydroxyfluorene can be converted to fluorenone by oxidants. It is a white-cream colored solid at room temperature.

9-Methylene-fluorene or dibenzofulvene (DBF) is a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon with chemical formula . It is best known as one product from deprotection of the Fmoc group. It can be prepared by treatment of 9-hydroxymethylfluorene with strong base.

2-Nitrofluorene is a by-product of combustion and is a nitrated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (fluorene). 2-Nitrofluorene is listed as an IARC Group 2B carcinogen, indicating it is possibly carcinogenic to humans.
