Wheston is a village and civil parish in the Derbyshire Peak District. Notable features include Wheston Hall and the Wheston Cross. The cross, which survives intact, is more than high. It probably dates from the 14th century and marked the way from Tideswell to Buxton along the Forest Road. Images of the Madonna and Child and the Crucifixion are carved into it. The cross is both a scheduled monument and a Grade II* listed building.

Shardlow is a village in Derbyshire, England about southeast of Derby and southwest of Nottingham. Part of the civil parish of Shardlow and Great Wilne, and the district of South Derbyshire, it is also very close to the border with Leicestershire, defined by the route of the River Trent which passes close to the south. Elmton is a linear village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Elmton with Creswell in the Bolsover district of Derbyshire, England, approximately equidistant from Bolsover Castle and Creswell Crags. In 2011 the parish had a population of 5550. On 1 April 2014 the parish was abolished to form "Elmton with Creswell". However the pre 2014 parish had also sometimes been called "Elmton with Creswell".

Whatstandwell () is a village on the River Derwent in the Amber Valley district of Derbyshire, England. It is about five miles south of Matlock and about four miles north of Belper. Whatstandwell railway station is on the Derby–Matlock Derwent Valley Line, and the A6 trunk road crosses the River Derwent in the village. Most of the population is included in the civil parish of Crich, and indeed the area to the north of the B5035 has been known as Crich Carr. That name has largely fallen into disuse, with the village of Whatstandwell generally thought to include this area and the area across the

Aldercar is a village in Derbyshire, England. It is located near Langley Mill, close to the county boundary with Nottinghamshire, and forms part of the civil parish of Aldercar and Langley Mill. The area is commonly known in Amber Valley thanks to Aldercar High School, the local secondary school. The area is also home to Aldercar Hall down Aldercar lane, one of the first houses in the area.

Riddings is a large village in Derbyshire, England. The appropriate ward of the Amber Valley Council is called Ironville and Riddings. The population of this ward as at the 2011 census was 5,821. It is located south of Alfreton near the hamlet of Golden Valley. The name derives from Ryddynges, a clearing or riding in a wood. This was the ancient forest known as Alfreton Grove within the manor of Alfreton. The settlement goes back at least to the 12th century, when Hugh de Ryddynges received half of the manor of Riddings and half of Watnall from his relative Ralf Ingram of Alfreton.
