Abraham Robinson

Abraham Robinson was an American mathematician, engineer, and university teacher. He worked in the fields of mathematical logic, model theory, nonstandard analysis, and mathematics. His notable work includes the development of nonstandard analysis. He was educated at the University of London, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and the University of Paris. His doctoral advisor was Paul Dienes.

Robinson held positions at the University of California, Los Angeles, Yale University, the University of Toronto, and the Free French Air Force. He was a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences. He received the Brouwer Medal and the title of Sterling Professor. He died of pancreatic cancer in New Haven in 1974. His archives are held at the National Library of Israel.
