Air Sweden's history begins in 2001 when Gunnar Olsson launches his airline Nordic Airlink to operate scheduled services. The airline's launch route was Lulea to Stockholm. The scheduled services operation is sold to Finnair, leaving the company to continue charter and leasing activities under the Nordic Leisure brand. The airline is rebranded Nordic Airways and now operates a mixed fleet of McDonnell Douglas MD-83 aircraft and Saab 340. Nordic Airways is acquired by our current management team and gets a new name and livery, Air Sweden. Major funding from Middle East based investors allows the company to modernise its fleet with the addition of two Airbus A320-200 aircraft. Both aircraft are immediately placed into service on wet lease and charter contracts. Air Sweden and its headquarters have moved back to the North of Sweden. The company is now named Nordic Air Sweden AB to reflect its geographical roots and the operational base is once again in Stockholm, as it was in 2001 when it all started.
