Alphée (du grec ancien Ἀλφαῖος / Alphaîos) est presque toujours nommé pour préciser de quel Jacques il est question, Jacques d'Alphée (Ἰάκωβος ὁ τοῦ Ἀλφαίου). On suppose donc qu'il s'agit de son père. Certains assurent qu'Alphée est une autre version du nom Clopas. Un Alphée est cité dans Marc 2.14, il est le père de Lévi, qui est probablement Matthieu.
