In analytical chemistry, argentometry is a type of titration involving the silver(I) ion. Typically, it is used to determine the amount of chloride present in a sample. The sample solution is titrated against a solution of silver nitrate of known concentration. Chloride ions react with silver(I) ions to give the insoluble silver chloride:

Argentometria – rodzaj precypitometrii (analizy strąceniowej), w której wykorzystuje się strącanie trudno rozpuszczalnych związków srebra. Można ją wykonać dwiema metodami: * metodą Mohra: odczynnikiem mianowanym jest roztwór azotanu srebra, * metodą Volharda: odczynnikiem mianowanym jest roztwór . Produktem reakcji strącania jest odpowiednia sól srebra.Metodami argentometrycznymi można oznaczać zawartość w roztworze anionów chlorkowych, bromkowych, jodkowych, rodankowych, fosforanowych, a także kationów srebra.
