It is a bear pit, or enclosure housing bears, situated at the eastern edge of the old city of Bern, next to the Nydeggbrücke and the River Aar. Although still in use, the Bärengraben has been supplemented since 2009 by the adjacent ', a larger and more natural enclosure alongside the River Aar.

La Fossa degli orsi (in tedesco Bärengraben) è una delle mete turistiche più visitate di Berna, in Svizzera. Nel 2009 è stata ristrutturata e collegata con un tunnel ad un nuovo ambiente adiacente, il Parco degli orsi, che si affaccia sul fiume Aare e che espande notevolmente lo spazio a disposizione degli animali.
