Ceres (ausgesprochen [ˈt͡seːʁɛs], im klassischen Latein [ˈkɛ.reːs]) ist die römische Göttin des Ackerbaus und der Fruchtbarkeit und gilt als Gesetzgeberin. Sie ist die Tochter der Ops und des Saturn. Im Griechischen heißt Ceres Demeter. Sie hatte mit Jupiter zwei Kinder: Proserpina und einen ungenannten Jungen. Die Interpretatio Romana stellt allerdings der eleusinischen Trias Demeter, Iakchos und Kore diejenige von Ceres, Liber und Libera gebildete aventinische Trias gegenüber.
