Clodoveo I (Tournai, 466 circa – Parigi, 27 novembre 511), figlio del re Childerico I e di sua moglie Basina, fu il secondo sovrano storicamente accertato della dinastia dei Merovingi, del regno dei Franchi Sali, dal 481 alla sua morte.In francese Clovis e in tedesco Chlodwig o Chlodowech, il suo nome deriva dal franco Hlodowig, composto da hlod (illustre) e wig (battaglia), e dunque significa "illustre in battaglia": da esso derivano i nomi Luigi e Ludovico. Clodoveo si fece battezzare nel 496.
