5.0Devdas, the son of a zamindar, and Parvati, his neighbour's daughter, are childhood sweethearts. However, class and caste differences prevent their marriage. Devdas is sent off to Calcutta, while Paro is married off to an aged rich widower. In Calcutta, as remorse drives him to alcohol, Devdas meets Chandramukhi, a tawaif.

Devdas est un film indien en hindi réalisé par P. C. Barua en 1935. Il s'agit de la seconde des trois adaptations cinématographiques de la nouvelle éponyme de Sarat Chandra Chatterjee produite par le studio New Theatres en 1935. La première, en bengali, également réalisée par P. C. Barua, est sortie quelques mois auparavant. P.V. Rao réalise la troisième adaptation en tamoul qui sort dans la présidence de Madras en 1937.
