Ecotypes, or ecospecies, are organisms which belong to the same species but possess different phenotypical features as a result of environmental factors such as elevation, climate and predation. Ecotypes can be seen in wide geographical distributions and may eventually lead to speciation.

エコタイプ(echotype、環境型)とは、生物学では、植物や動物の種が、生育する環境に適応して、それぞれ遺伝的な分化が進んで、表現型の違い(形態や生態の違い)が現れるようになるが、亜種として分類されることを保証するには小さい変異の状態の生物群として用いられる用語である。 遺伝学や生態学で用いられる概念である。異なった環境において、生育する環境に適応して、それぞれ遺伝的な分化が進み、形態や生態に違いが固定されるようになるが、異なるエコタイプ間の生物で交雑は可能である。厳密に区分できる「種」や「亜種」の定義は、必ずしも確定していないので、分化の度合がどれぐらいまでをエコタイプと呼ぶという使われ方はしない。 科学史的には1922年にスウェーデンの植物学、イエテ・トゥレッソン(Göte Turesson)が進化や種の定義を論じるのに用いたのに始まる。 具体例としては、モデル生物として広く研究されている植物のシロイヌナズナでは、生殖地の異なるシロイヌナズナはDNAレベルで分化が生じており、可視的な形質の分化がみられる。それぞれのエコタイプには名前が付けられ、系統保存されて、研究に用いられている。
