AI overview

An electronvolt (eV) is a unit of energy that measures the kinetic energy gained by a single electron when it accelerates through an electric potential difference of one volt. Physicists use electronvolts as a standard way to describe energy in atomic and subatomic processes, where the more familiar joule would result in impractically small numbers.
