EMBOSS is a free c software analysis package developed for the needs of the molecular biology and bioinformatics user community. The software automatically copes with data in a variety of formats and even allows transparent retrieval of sequence data from the web. Also, as extensive libraries are provided with the package, it is a platform to allow other scientists to develop and release software in true open source spirit. EMBOSS also integrates a range of currently available packages and tools for sequence analysis into a seamless whole.

EMBOSS es una suite bioinformática de tipo open source creada por EMBnet que es empleada fundamentalmente en biología molecular y genética. EMBOSS es un acrónimo procedente del inglés «European Molecular Biology Open Software Suite». Se trata de un software versátil que recibe datos en multitud de formatos y que los analiza de múltiples maneras. Contiene multitud de herramientas centradas en el análisis de ácidos nucleicos y proteínas. Si bien se ejecuta en la línea de comandos, existen GUIs que facilitan su manipulación bajo un entorno gráfico.
