Er studierte in Prag, München und Leipzig und lehrte anschließend in Rostock und Halle. Später wurde er Professor für Psychologie und Ästhetik in Prag. 1942 deportierten die Nationalsozialisten ihn gemeinsam mit seiner Frau nach Theresienstadt, wo er die Bibliothek leitete. Nach der Befreiung arbeitete er wieder an der Universität Prag. Benz, Wolfgang: Theresienstadt. Eine Geschichte von Täuschung und Vernichtung. München 2013, S. 102f.
