Eugenia Kalnay

Eugenia Kalnay (1942–2024) was an Argentine-American meteorologist, scientist, and university teacher. Born in Buenos Aires, she held citizenship in Argentina and the United States. She earned a Doctor of Philosophy and was educated at the University of Buenos Aires and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Her doctoral advisor was Jule Gregory Charney. Kalnay worked at the University of Maryland, University of Oklahoma, Goddard Space Flight Center, and the University of the Republic.

Her professional focus included meteorology, oceanography, the atmosphere of Earth, and weather forecasting. She authored works such as *Atmosph Model Data Assimil Predict* and *Atmospheric Modeling, Data Assimilation and Predictability*. Kalnay was a member of the Academia Europaea, the National Academy of Engineering, and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. She received the International Meteorological Organization Prize, the Roger Revelle Medal, and was recognized as a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. She resided in Maryland until her death there in 2024.
