Evelyn Fox Keller

Evelyn Fox Keller (1936–2023) was an American physicist, philosopher, university teacher, and writer. Born in New York City, she was educated at Harvard University, Brandeis University, and Radcliffe College. Her professional career included positions at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the University of California, Berkeley, Northeastern University, and the State University of New York at Purchase, where she held the title of professor emeritus. She was married to Joseph Keller.

Keller’s work focused on gender studies, molecular biology, and the history of science. She authored 23 works, including *Photoinactivation and expression of genetic information in bacteriophage*, *Demarcating public from private values in evolutionary discourse*, *Three cultures*, *Body/politics*, and *Keywords in evolutionary biology*. She received a Guggenheim Fellowship, the Dan David Prize, and was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. She was also a member of the American Philosophical Society and spoke English. She died in Cambridge.
