This group is characterized by aquatic respiration and includes anatomical parts such as the lateral line system, inner ear, gill, and fin. They are studied through the field of ichthyology and have been present since about 530 million years ago. The organism is an aquatic animal and marine life that moves via swimming.
The habitat for fish includes marine, brackish, and freshwater environments. They serve as a source for fish as food, roe, cod liver oil, and shagreen. Uses include fish as food, bycatch, and recreational fishing. The taxon is referenced by 7,855 other encyclopedia articles and appears in sources such as Fishes of the World and FishBase.
