George Coșbuc

George Coșbuc (1866–1918) was a Romanian linguist, poet, translator, and teacher. Born in Coșbuc, he was a member of the Romanian Academy and associated with the semănătorism movement. His literary output included the genres of ballad and idyll, with notable works such as *Povesteă unei coroane de oțel*, *Balade și idile*, *Fire de tort*, and *Balade*. He was influenced by Ioan Slavici.

Coșbuc spoke Romanian, Hungarian, German, and Italian. He was educated at Franz Joseph University and Babeș-Bolyai University. A member of the Romanian Greek Catholic Church, he held citizenship in the Austrian Empire, Austria–Hungary, and the Kingdom of Romania. He died in Bucharest and is buried at Bellu Cemetery. He used the pseudonym C. Boșcu and the nickname Bădica.
