Georges Duby

Georges Duby (1919–1996) was a French historian, medievalist, and university teacher. Born in the 10th arrondissement of Paris, he was educated at the University of Lyon and served as a full professor at the Collège de France, University of Provence - Aix-Marseille I, and Marie and Louis Pasteur University. He held memberships in the Académie Française, Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres, Academie Royale de Langue et de littérature Françaises, and Reial Acadèmia de Bones Lletres de Barcelona.

Duby’s doctoral advisor was Charles-Edmond Perrin, and he supervised Paul-Albert Février. He received the Commander of the Legion of Honour, the Grand Prix Gobert, the Concours général, and the prix Gobert. His notable works include *Mâle Moyen Age*, *Villages désertés et histoire économique*, *Oeuvres*, *L'economia rurale nell'Europa medievale*, and *Els Ideals de la Mediterrània dins la cultura europea*. He died in Le Tholonet.
