Giulio Cesare Vanini

Giulio Cesare Vanini, also known by the name Lucilio Vanini, was an Italian philosopher, physician, naturalist, and astrologer born in Taurisano in 1585. A member of the Carmelites who served as a chaplain, he worked within the fields of philosophy, medicine, and literature. His intellectual approach was associated with scholasticism and pantheism, and he was influenced by Giordano Bruno and Pietro Pomponazzi. He wrote in Italian and Latin and identified with Catholicism.

Vanini died in Toulouse on February 9, 1619, by capital punishment through death by burning. His notable works include *Amphitheatrum aeternae providentiae*, *Anfiteatro della eterna provvidenza*, *Opere*, *Le opere di Giulio Cesare Vanini*, and *Ivlii Caesaris Vanini ... De admirandis naturae reginae deaeque mortalium arcanis*. He is described in the Brockhaus and Efron Encyclopedic Dictionary and the Encyclopædia Britannica 11th edition.
