Intolerancia es una película muda de 1916 perteneciente al género del cine épico dirigida por David Wark Griffith y una de las películas más caras de la historia del cine.​ Considerada como una de las películas más influyentes de la era muda (aunque recibió críticas mixtas en su momento),​ la epopeya de tres horas y media intercala cuatro líneas argumentales paralelas, cada una de ellas separada por varios siglos: en primer lugar, un melodrama contemporáneo de crimen y redención; en segundo lugar, una historia de Judea: la misión y la muerte de Cristo; en tercer lugar, una historia francesa: los acontecimientos que rodearon la matanza de San Bartolomé de 1572; y en cuarto lugar, una historia babilónica: la caída del Imperio de Babilonia en manos de Persia en el año 539 a. C.
