Isamu Noguchi

Isamu Noguchi was a male sculptor, designer, landscape architect, and painter. He was born in Los Angeles in 1904 and died in New York City in 1988 due to heart failure. He held citizenship in Japan and the United States. His native name was Isamu Noguchi, or 野口 勇. He spoke English.

Noguchi was educated at Columbia University. He was a member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He received the Guggenheim Fellowship, the National Medal of Arts, the Kyoto Prize in Arts and Philosophy, and the Order of the Sacred Treasure. He participated in Documenta III and was associated with the abstract expressionism movement. His spouse was Yoshiko Yamaguchi, and his father was Yone Noguchi.
