José Evangelista (born 1943, Valencia, Spain) is a Spanish composer, who moved to Montréal, Canada, in 1970. There he studied composition with André Prévost and Bruce Mahler. His works composed after 1982 are characterized by monodic writing, that is without the use of harmony or counterpoint. This feature often gives his compositions a ritual quality and a non-western, more Asian flavour. His probably most well-known work is Ô Bali (1988), inspired by Balinese gamelan music. <a href="https://ww
