Karl Gebhardt

Karl Gebhardt was a German surgeon, physician, university teacher, and politician. Born in Haag in Oberbayern in 1897, he served in World War I and World War II, attaining the ranks of Obergruppenführer and Sturmbannführer. He was a member of the Nazi Party and held allegiance to Nazi Germany. His professional career included positions at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, where he was also educated, as well as the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, the Hohenlychen Sanatorium, and the Organisation Todt.

Gebhardt received the Iron Cross during his service. He was convicted of crimes against humanity and executed by hanging at Landsberg am Lech on June 2, 1948. In addition to his medical and political roles, he was an author with works such as *Univerträglichkeit bei Prunus-Pfropfkombinationen*, *Das okzitanische Lehngut im Französischen*, and *Determining hydrologic properties of soil*. He spoke German and is referenced in multiple encyclopedia articles.
