Doerfer and Hesche (1993) treat it as having five varieties: Northwest , Southwest , Southeast , Northeast , and North . This treatment is followed here. In other works, Doerfer breaks Khorasani Turkic into three groups: Central Oghuz (Southwest), Southern Oghuz (Northwest, Southwest), and East Oghuz (North, Northeast).
