Laurus

Laurus is a genus of woody plants within the family Lauraceae. It belongs to the order Laurales, class Magnoliopsida, and phylum Tracheophyta in the kingdom Plantae. The taxonomic type for this genus is Laurus nobilis. Common names for the group include laurel, lovor, and cassila manjuba. The genus produces fruit of the nucule type.

The native range of Laurus includes Albania, Algeria, the Azores, the Canary Islands, Corse, Cyprus, the East Aegean Islands, France, Greece, Italy, Kriti, and Lebanon-Syria. The genus has also been introduced to the Baleares, Great Britain, Ireland, Korea, Krym, the North Caucasus, Portugal, Spain, the Transcaucasus, and Vietnam.
