Der Kreis Lippe ist ein Kreis im Regierungsbezirk Detmold (Ostwestfalen-Lippe) im Nordosten Nordrhein-Westfalens. Kreisstadt ist Detmold. Der Kreis steht in der Tradition des ehemaligen Landes Lippe, das 1947 Nordrhein-Westfalen beitrat und seither (neben nördlichem Rheinland und Westfalen) dessen dritten Landesteil bildet. Symbolisiert wird diese Stellung durch die Lippische Rose im Wappen Nordrhein-Westfalens. Der Name des Kreises leitet sich von dem bis 1918 regierenden Herrscherhaus her, dessen Stammsitz sich am Fluss Lippe befand, welcher das Kreisgebiet jedoch nicht berührt.
