It will reopen its doors by the end of April, completely preserved and restored. The three storey mansion was built by famous German architect Ernst Ziller in 1885. He resided there with his family until 1912. “The Ziller-Loverdos Mansion is an architectural jewel for Athens. It is a building with many unique details, characteristic of the architectural signature of Ziller, which experienced abandonment for many years,” Greece’s Minister of Culture and Sports Lina Mendoni said. The restoration works were completed by the Directorate for the Preservation of Ancient and Modern Monuments of Greece. The Ziller-Loverdos Mansion will now function as an exhibition space under the Byzantine and Christian Museum. The building suffered from fire, floods and neglect and in the early 1980s it even housed the wardrobe of the Greek National Opera.
