Luis von Ahn

Luis von Ahn is a Guatemalan computer scientist and university teacher born in Guatemala City in 1978. He holds citizenship in Guatemala and resides in Pittsburgh, where he works. His professional roles include serving as chief executive officer and holding positions at Carnegie Mellon University, Duolingo, and Google. He is educated at Carnegie Mellon University and Duke University, having received a scholarship.

Von Ahn’s notable works include reCAPTCHA and Duolingo. He has also authored the work *Human Computation*. His professional affiliations extend to having a website account on Duolingo. His doctoral advisor was Manuel Blum, and his doctoral student is Severin Guey, who is also his significant person.

He has received several awards, including the Innovators Under 35, the Lemelson–MIT Prize, the Grace Murray Hopper Award, and recognition through the MacArthur Fellows Program. He is recognized in the National Inventors Hall Of Fame collection and the Macarthur Fellows collection.
