The Maithils (Devanagari: मैथिल), also known as Maithili people, are an Indo-Aryan cultural and ethno-linguistic group from the Indian subcontinent, who speak the Maithili language as their native language. They inhabit the Mithila region, which comprises Northern and Eastern Bihar and Northeastern Jharkhand in India & in Nepal constituting Madhesh Province in addition to some Terai districts of Bagmati and Koshi Provinces.

Les Maïthils (Tirhuta : মৈথিল, Devanagari : मैथिल), également connu sous le nom de peuple Maïthili, est un groupe ethno-linguistique indo-aryen du sous-continent indien, dont la langue maternelle est le maïthili. Ils habitent la région de Mithila, qui comprend les divisions de Tirhut, Darbhanga, Kosi, Purnia, Munger, Bhagalpur et (en) en Inde et certains districts voisins du Népal. La patrie maïthil constitue une partie importante de la mythologie hindoue, puisqu'on dit qu'elle est le lieu de naissance de Sītā, l'épouse de Rāma.
