Mesostigmatophyceae
Sign in to saveThe Mesostigmatophyceae are a class of basal green algae found in freshwater. In a narrow circumscription, the class contains a single genus, Mesostigma. AlgaeBase then places the class within its circumscription of Charophyta. A clade containing Chlorokybus and Spirotaenia may either be added, or treated as a sister, with Chlorokybus placed in a separate class, Chlorokybophyceae. When broadly circumscribed, Mesostigmatophyceae may be placed as sister to all other green algae, or as sister to all Streptophyta.

Mesostigmatophyceae je třída zelených řas nově vyčleněná z parafyletického oddělení Charophyta (parožnatky v širším smyslu) na základě molekulárně-biologických fylogenetických analýz. Jedná se o vodní řasy. Jednu vývojovou linii (Mesostigmatales) tvoří řasy jednobuněčné, volně pohyblivé. Řasy druhé linie (Chaetosphaeridiales) tvoří vláknité stélky, obalené společnou trubičkou z buněčné stěny bez plazmodezmat, bičíkaté jsou jejich jednobuněčné zoospory. Jednobuněčná bičíkatá stadia mají zploštělé oválné buňky bez dvoustranné symetrie a dva bičíky přibližně stejné délky. Buňky obsahují jeden mističkovitý chloroplasty ohraničený dvojitou membránou.
