Mstislav Keldysh

Mstislav Keldysh was a mathematician, engineer, university teacher, and politician who held citizenship in the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union. Born in Riga on January 28, 1911, he worked in the fields of mathematics, mechanics, approximation theory, and physics. He was an academician and served as a professor at institutions including the Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute, the Keldysh Institute of Applied Mathematics, the Keldysh Research Center, and Lomonosov Moscow State University.

Keldysh was educated at the MSU Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics, Lomonosov Moscow State University, and the Steklov Institute of Mathematics. He was a member of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union and participated in the 22nd Congress of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. His doctoral advisor was Mikhail Lavrentyev, and he held the academic degree of Doctor of Sciences. He died of heart failure in Moscow on June 24, 1978, and is buried at the Kremlin Wall Necropolis.
