Nathan Alterman

Nathan Alterman (1910–1970) was a male poet, writer, journalist, and playwright born in Warsaw. He held citizenship in the Russian Empire, Mandatory Palestine, and Israel. A native Hebrew speaker, he also spoke Russian, English, and French. He was educated at the University of Paris and was a member of the Rafi political party, adhering to Labor Zionism ideology.

His literary career began in 1931. He authored works including *Yaldut Yiśreʾelit*, *Ḥaruzim li-yeladim*, *ha-Nesikhah Ṭurandoṭ*, *פגישה לאין קץ*, and *עד קצוי העצב*. Alterman received the Israel Prize and the Bialik Prize. He died in Tel Aviv and is buried at Kiryat Shaul Cemetery. He had one child, Tirtza Atar.
