Nuclear physics is the branch of science that studies how atomic nuclei are structured and how they behave. It matters because understanding nuclei helps us develop nuclear energy, medical treatments, and weapons technology, while also revealing fundamental truths about how matter works.

Fizyka jądrowa – dział fizyki zajmujący się badaniem budowy i przemian jądra atomowego. Zajmuje się badaniami doświadczalnymi, teoretycznymi oraz zastosowaniem techniki jądrowej. Najbardziej powszechnie znane zastosowania fizyki jądrowej to energetyka i broń jądrowa, jednak w wyniku prowadzonych badań powstały inne zastosowania tej dziedziny. Przykłady: medycyna – obrazowanie rezonansu magnetycznego, inżynieria materiałowa – implantowanie jonowe czy archeologia – datowanie na podstawie zawartości atomów radioaktywnych izotopów węgla. Z fizyki jądrowej wyodrębniła się osobna dziedzina – fizyka cząstek elementarnych.
